Community Involvement

Volunteers provide a caring presence, a sense of direction, a non-judgmental, supportive role and encouragement in self worth. Their presence affirms that there are people who care about their struggles and communicates the message that all human life has value. Volunteers bring the source of new life and hope to inmates who desperately need acceptance and the motivation to improve their lives.

Approved regular volunteers from the community will teach the course. With the approval of the Administrator of Religion and Family Services for the state facilities, and the chaplain and Warden in each County prison, these volunteers will be recruited from the list of already approved, regular volunteers for each of the institutions. Interns will also be recruited from local academic institutions if warranted. All recruitment, of both volunteers and interns, will be under the direction of the Senior Chaplain at the institution in which they serve.

Every course instructor will attend a one half-day training session designed to familiarize them with the course materials and the objectives of the overall program. Each course instructor will be given a course manual and taught how to motivate the inmates toward the life changing principles in the program.
